ICIT – Specimen length method


General information

The ICIT – specimen length method is an experimental method for recording crack resistance (R) curves under dynamic (impact) stress, e.g. in instrumented Charpy impact tests (see also: Impact loading pendulum impact tester).

Implementation of the method

With this method, different stable crack growth Δa are achieved by pulling the test specimens, whose length l is equal to the support span s (support distance) plus a certain oversize of 0.1 to 0.2 mm, through the supports. The greater the oversize, the later the test specimen is pulled through between the abutments and the greater the Δa achieved should be.
