Error Limit


Explanation of terms

In measurement or testing technology, error limits or limit deviations [1] are agreed or guaranteed maximum values for positive or negative deviations of the measured value display (output) of a measuring device from the correct value [2] (see also: measured value). Error limits must therefore be clearly distinguished from measurement errors and measurement uncertainty. Error limits depend on the technical effort involved and on fundamental physical and measurement-related limits. Depending on its age and the standard used, a technical measuring device can be assigned an error limit of, for example, class 1.0 and 0.5 % or accuracy classes 0.5 or 1.0.
