The standard small bar is a test [[Specimen | specimen]] with a rectangular cross-section. It is defined in the withdrawn standards for the [[Impact Test | impact bending test]] in Charpy arrangement, DIN 53453 [1] and DIN 53753 [2]. This specimen shape is no longer listed in the currently valid standard ISO 179-1 [3] for the notched impact bending test.&lt;br /&gt;

Although the standard small bar is no longer considered in current standardisation, it is still used, primarily in the industrial sector, for the notched impact bending test. Its smaller dimensions compared to [[Specimen | test specimen type 1]] allow it to be removed from the [[Component Testing|component]] under certain circumstances, even if the thickness specification of 4 mm cannot be adhered to. Only the test specimen for [[Impact Test#Dynstat impact test|Dynstat impact bending tests]] offers even smaller dimensions in the field of impact bending tests.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The double-sided notched test specimen (double-V-notching) in accordance with DIN 53753 is used, for example, in window profile testing in accordance with RAL-GZ 716 [4]. Typical [[Notch | notch geometries]] are the notch types A (radius in the notch base 0.25 mm) and C (0.1 mm) specified in current standards [3], although in principle other types can also be used. However, DIN 53753 [2] also mentions notch radii of 0.5 mm and 2.0 mm, which are no longer included in ISO 179-1 [3].&lt;br /&gt;

The Charpy test on test specimens with U-notch (DIN 53543) is provided for in some automotive standards and delivery specifications, in some cases as an alternative to testing in accordance with ISO 179-1.&lt;br /&gt;
