Gloss describes the property of a [[Surface|surface]] to reflect light in a specific direction (see: [[Reflection Light|reflection light]]). In accordance with ISO 4618, the following gloss levels are distinguished: high gloss, gloss, silk gloss, semigloss, satin, matt and dead matt [1].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
To describe the gloss, the gloss value is determined. The gloss value is the ratio, multiplied by 100, of the luminous fluxes reflected specularly by a sample and a glass surface with a [[Refraction Index|refraction index]] of 1.567 at a wavelength of 587.6 nm, with the angle of reflection and the aperture angles of the light source and receiver being specified [2]. The gloss value determined on a surface is compared to the gloss of a polished black glass surface to determine the gloss and is expressed in gloss units (GU). The gloss value for the glass surface with the specified refractive index and wavelength is 100 GU.&lt;br /&gt;
